Welcome to Autisma

Welcome to Autisma, The Autism Forum.

Autisma is a vibrant and lively forum, advice and resource centre for people with an autistic spectrum condition, and for the parents/carers of autistic people.

At Autisma, we have over 15 years’ worth of experience of working with people with autism and/or learning difficulties.  In particular, we’ve specialised in working with people with high-functioning autism, working with them to achieve their life goals, to access the wider community and to make sense of the great world outside.

Our work has included:

  • Education

  • Working at home, at work and in the community

  • Working in supported accommodation

  • Independent living skills

  • Managing work placements and providing in-work support

  • Travel training

  • Benefits advice

  • Counselling

  • Supporting with mental health issues.

Autisma is about you.  You’ll find a bunch of useful and interesting stuff on this website to support you in getting the most out of life.  But at its heart, Autisma is a forum where you can share your experiences, ask each other questions and pass on useful and positive information that might help someone else.

The Autisma Forum is a place where you can start or join in with conversations that interest you.  It’s your forum.  It exists to let you know that you’re not the only one who sees and feels things the way you do.

You can join quickly and easily by registering your email and username (it doesn’t have to be your actual name).  Once you’ve registered, you can start a new conversation thread or respond to ones that already exist.

We look forward to welcoming you into our community.

Best wishes,

Leaf

A growing organism

'Spectrum' because autistic conditions are a range of behaviours characterised by difficulties in social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour.

Autisma uses 'The Spectrum Leaf' as our logo.  The spectrum represents a range of colours, as in a rainbow, and the range of challenges that autistic people are presented with.

The leaf represents life and growth, something that develops over time.

A leaf is something natural and organic. When it receives nutrients, it grows and develops. Leaves provide food to help plants stay healthy and grow. The leaf also refers to the pages of a book, as in 'turning over a new leaf' - starting something new.
